Work Rights and Stay-Back Options
International students with a valid student visa in Australia are generally allowed to work part-time during their studies. The work rights permit students to work up to 40 hours per fortnight (a two-week period) during the academic semester and full-time during scheduled breaks, such as summer or winter holidays. Post-Study Work Stream (PSW), upon graduation, international students may be eligible for the Post-Study Work Stream (PSW) visa. This visa allows students to work in Australia temporarily after completing their studies to gain practical work experience related to their field of study. The duration of the PSW visa depends on the highest level of qualification obtained:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s by Coursework: Up to two years of post-study work rights.
- Master’s by Research: Up to three years of post-study work rights.
